Usually the one better located is served by better quality carriers, and the one further away by airlines for low cost airlines. Is it similar in Kraków? How many airports are there in Kraków? If you are wondering whether it is possible to fly to Krakow to an airport other than Balice airport, the answer is – yes, you can. But this does not mean that you can fly into it on an airline jet. The most important airport in Kraków is Krakow Airport in Balice and it is here that the planes of popular carriers land and it is the airport which handles passenger traffic for Kraków.

The airport is located in a small town just outside Krakow, and here you can find out how to get from the airport to the centre and from the centre to the airport.

The airport in Balice is not the only one. In the village of Pobiednik Wielki near Krakow, there is an airfield in Krakow-Pobiednik Wielki. It is a small airfield of the Krakow Aeroclub. The airfield code is EPKP. Small, private aeroplanes tend to land here. The airfield has neither a concrete nor an asphalt runway so only small avionics can land there. Pobiednik airfield has only a grass runway. If you are going to Kraków on a private jet you will have to land at Balice airport.

The second major airport located near Krakow is Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport. This airport is located approximately 110 kilometres from Krakow’s Main Square. The journey from Katowice Airport to Krakow can take from 1.5 to 2 hours, so if you are flying to Krakow, it’s best to choose a plane landing at Krakow Airport.

Before World War II and shortly after it, Krakow could boast of having an airfield located right next to the city centre. It was the Rakowice-Czyżyny airport. Unfortunately, its area was built over, part of it is now used by the Museum of Polish Aviation, and a small part is a small landing field belonging to the museum. The landing field Rakowice-Czyżyny has a 610-metre-long runway. The Aviation Museum in Krakow is a popular tourist attraction not far from the city centre.
