You’re asking yourself if there is possibility to go to beach in Krakow, or is there place where you can go swim with beautiful beach somewhere near? Well, answer to this question is not really so simple.
Krakow is located in the south of Poland, where, unfortunately, it is very far from the Baltic Sea or the Adriatic Sea. There is no sea, but there is river and lakes near Krakow. This does not mean, however, that there is no beach in Krakow, there is a beach in Krakow!
Where are the beaches in Kraków? Here are some places good for swimming and sunbathing in Krakow.
Przylasek Rusiecki
Przylasek Rusiecki are several artificial water reservoirs located far from the centre of Krakow. In the recent past, an artificial sandy beach was opened at the reservoir number 1 and a bathing site is opened in the summer. You can get there by public transport, your own car or a taxi. It is about 20 km from the centre of Krakow to Przylasek Rusiecki.
Kąpielisko Bagry
Another artificial reservoir in Krakow, but this time only about 9 km from the centre of the city. The Bagry Beach at Bagry Reservoir is a small sandy beach and guarded swimming area. There is an infrastructure for water sports such as sailing or kite surfing board rental. There is also a park with food trucks and many alleys around the reservoir. Access here is definitely faster than at Przylasek Rusiecki but the beach is very small.
Kryspinów
Two artificial lagoons, Zalew na Piaskach and Zalew Budzyński, known as Kryspinów in the consciousness of Krakowians, are located in a village near Krakow. The two reservoirs are a good option for those wishing to swim, sunbathe or even enjoy a nudist beach. The lagoon is characterised by a well-developed infrastructure. It is easy to get here from the centre of Krakow. The address to enter in GPS is Zalew Kryspinów, 32-060 Budzyn, the Reservoir is located about 13 kilometres from the centre of Krakow.
Places where swimming is not allowed!
There are many other bodies of water in Krakow, such as the popular Zakrzówek or the Zalew Nowohucki in Nowa Huta. However, it is worth remembering that swimming is not allowed in these places, and in Zakrzówek it may even end in a tragic accident. It is also forbidden to bathe in the Vistula river in the center of Krakow!
Unfortunately, each of these places is away from the Main Square and you have to get there by taxi or public transport.
However, in the very center of the Krakow on the Vistula River, a bathing area with a swimming pool are to be built in 2022/23 on a barge next to the Forum Hotel. This area is new trendy place with cafes and restaurants, 300 meters from Wawel. Here you can meet beautiful polish woman and handsome polish boys, buy craft beer (check beer prices in Krakow) and fancy desserts.
